29. LEAP-YEAR. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. LAM. 3:22, 23.
If, under means of grace,
No fruits of grace appear,
It is a dreadful case:
Though God may long forbear,
At length he’ll strike the threatened blow
And lay the barren fig tree low.
Then said he to the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree, and fine none: cut it down;why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: and if it bear fruit, well; and, if not, then after that thou shall cut it down. LUKE 13: 7-9.
